Srebarna Nature Reserve, Bulgaria

The Srebarna Nature Reserve near the village of the same name in northern Bulgaria is a remarkable and beautiful area of biodiversity, very much deserving of being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The reserve is a freshwater lake and its surrounding wetlands, covering an area of around 6 km², which includes the two Srebarna lakes, the Great and the Small Srebarna.It is located just 12 kilometers from the city of Silistra on the Bulgarian Danube border with Romania, and was established in 1948 as a nature reserve.
